A backyard should work for you - not the other way around. Too many yards in the desert sit mostly unused because there's no real setup to enjoy. No defined space to grill, hang out, or just kick back. That's the problem this kind of design solves.

Here's what we were working with - a yard that needed clear zones for living and landscaping. The approach combines a multi-tone paver patio for the main gathering area with artificial turf and stepping stone pathways cutting through it. It keeps the space functional and visually interesting without turning into a maintenance headache every weekend.

The raised planter beds with stacked stone borders are a big part of what ties everything together. They give the existing trees and shrubs a clean, finished look and separate the plant areas from the turf and gravel zones. Good landscape design is really about creating structure - and the planters do exactly that here.

From a turf management standpoint, artificial grass in a desert climate is a smart call. No irrigation waste, no dead patches, no mowing in the heat. It stays green and even all year, and paired with gravel borders and desert-adapted plantings, the whole yard becomes genuinely low-effort to keep up.

The result is a backyard that's actually set up to be used. Fire up the grill, pull up a chair, and you've got a space that holds up without constant upkeep. That's the goal with every yard we design - build it right so you can actually enjoy it.
